OMAN can indeed be proud of its varied exotic wildlife both on land and in the surrounding waters. The warm waters of the Sultanate are home to 22 species of whales and dolphins. Oman has a plethora of exotic marine life and some of the best dive sites in the world. In particular, the Hallaniyat Islands and the Damaniyat Islands offer exciting opportunities to see vividly coloured tropical fish and extraordinary hard and soft corals. Did you know that the Sultanate has also some of the most important sea turtle nesting beaches in the world?
Over 450 species of birds (out of 10,000 known worldwide) have been identified in the Sultanate of Oman. Muscat is also one of the best places in the world to study the Steppe Eagle and one may see up to 100 at any one time. Oman is also host to many foreign species, such as the Golden Oriole, Nightjar and White Stork.
